Reminder: Changes coming for subscribers! Important info below!

Good morning, friends and neighbors.  I wanted to drop a quick note reminding everyone, especially subscribers, that things are changing in the Ale Evangelist Show podcast subscription world.  In an effort to get some more analytics and statistics as to who is listening, etc., we are having to change up the feeds, which means that currently, everything is up in the air.

For those who don’t know a basic subscription is an anonymous, hidden process. I don’t know how many people are subscribed to the podcast, and how many people are listening online. I know how many people visit my podcast posts, but I can’t tell if they actually hit the MP3 and listened, etc. This includes iTunes…they don’t provide ANY stats to podcasters. There are services that are trying to fill this statistical gap, and we’re currently in the process of transitioning to one of these services. (Feedburner by Google, for those who are curious.)

iTunes not only doesn’t provide any information, they also don’t allow any customization once a show is accepted, which means we essentially have to completely clear out the show from iTunes before we can re-apply to be placed back on there. (They automatically deny any new show submission which matches an existing show too closely.) The “new” show may have the same URL, or (more likely, in my estimation) it will have a new URL with a new feed that won’t update existing subscribers.

What do I do, then?

Here’s what’s going to happen. Once I have finalized links, I will replace all the current links with these new, and improved links.  What you will need to do, whether you subscribed using iTunes, or the XML feed, is resubscribe using the new links I provide. I apologize for the hassle, but we’re only 6 shows into this ride. Once you resubscribe, you should be able to mark all the shows as read/listened, so that you get notifications for only new shows, etc.

I will mention this in the next show as well, so everyone is informed.  Thanks for your patience, and thanks VERY much for listening. If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at scotsman (at)
